An art educator and curator, Sheila Zago holds a Master's Degree in Arts - Museum and Galleries Practice - from University College London (UCL). Her online signature is @thenomadcurator: a main channel of research and dissemination of the production of different contemporary artists, with special emphasis for authors from the Global South. Living and working on four continents, she developed artistic and educational projects for biennials, art collectives, social projects and refugee camps in countries like Azerbaijan, Egypt, India, England, Italy, Lebanon, Syria, the United Arab Emirates, the United States and Thailand. As an educator, she defends art as a means of connection, applying it as a powerful tool in social transformation in personal and collective spheres, which manifests itself in her special interest in working with refugee groups and people in communities not recognized by local governments. As a contemporary art researcher, her interests are focused on issues involving societies in the process of disappearing, loss of identity, memory and diasporic movements arising from colonialist practices, pressure from neocolonialists or armed conflicts, and art as a way to give minorities a voice. |
