ABOUT US
The Academy organises short professional development courses in art, architecture and design. Each course is a combination of lectures, workshops and guided visits to architecture studios, museums and the Venice Biennale. Courses are aimed to give you exclusive insights and teach you practical skills in a short period of time. All of the courses are in English.

LOCATION
ECA locations are NOT your average classroom. Our palace in Venice has a view on Gran Canal. During classes you will be surrounded by astonishing architecture and art.
ECA main location is Palazzo Michiel, Strada Nova, 4391, 30121 Campo Santi Apostoli, Venezia. Classes also take place in historic palaces in the heart of Venice: Palazzo Bembo, and Palazzo Mora.
The second location is in the heart of Amsterdam: Oudezijds Achterburgwal 237, 1012DL, Amsterdam

PROVIDING INSIDER'S EXPERIENCE
Classes take place in historic palazzos, students visit the shows that are closed to the public, private art residences, design and architecture studios.

Our participants come from all backgrounds and the course is open to anyone with an interest in the Arts, Architecture, and Culture.

HOW TO APPLY?
This is an open-enrollment non-degree study programme for participants of all ages. Apply online on our website or send your request to study@europeanculturalacademy.com. Please note that we accept a limited number of students per group, ther are waiting lists for the popular courses.

CERTIFICATES
A certificate is given upon completion of the programme. Selective courses are eligible for ECTS credits, please contact us for more information before the start of the course.

The Venice Biennale is the oldest and most prestigious art and architecture show in the world. The Venice Biennale Revealed course allows you to explore this large and complex event in the right way: through meeting the organisers and artists and having intimate conversations with experts and curators.

ARCHITECTURE PROGRAMMES


SUSTAINABLE, HEALTHY CITIES: (RE)-BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE

Monday 27th June - Friday 8th July, 2022
This 12-day programme will ask students to explore the potential to learn from the past, as well as from present technologies and practice, in order to design healthier cities for the future; and to retro-fit today's urban spaces to cater for new challenges that may evolve.
The course is organised in collaboration with Dr David Howard (Kellogg College Oxford), Dr Matthew Hardy (The Prince's Foundation) and the Global Centre on Healthcare and Urbanisation.

VENETIAN ARCHITECTURE AND THE HERITAGE OF CARLO SCARPA
In collaboration with the Bartlett School of Architecture

The studio focuses on the work of the most enigmatic and famous Venetian architect - Carlo Scarpa, and his heritage in Venice.

Designing for an Architectural Brand + Personal Construct Psychology Model
In collaboration with the United Arab Emirates University
1 - 12 August, 2022

This course aims at introducing students to Brand Design Strategy, and Personal Construct Psychology Model (PCP Model) in the architectural design studio. Through interpreting the local societal inherent and brand images of the city of Venice, students will have the opportunity to explore the local environment and its heritage architecture.

TEACHING LANGUAGE THROUGH ART
Check each course

This interactive course gives language educators the opportunity to develop their language teaching skills in an international environment. Participants will have workshops and brainstorming sessions which focus on using works of art as a tool in language learning classroom. In addition to classes and workshops led by expert facilitators, the course includes visits to cultural spaces and museums, with time to explore and find inspiration.

The course takes place in Venice, Italy. The city is incredibly international with a wide range of cultures represented in the artwork displayed.

The course focuses on giving educators lots of practice in art and language integrated learning. Teachers will walk away from the course with new methodology, 4+ completed lesson plans, and new international connections; tools which can immediately be brought back into their second language classroom.

Alexandra Laqueur
Head of Education
Alexandra is responsible for the programme content, groups and marketing. Write or call her if you have any questions about strategic initiatives and curriculum.

Sara Longo
Programme Coordinator
Born in Italy, Sara grew up in the US, then in France, where she graduated in Art History (PhD-Sorbonne). She lives for visual arts and music, and for the past ten years she worked as art history teacher, translator and also as a jazz singer all over Europe. She now spends most of her time in Venice where she runs courses for educators.

Alice Janssens
External Relations & University Collaborations Manager
Alice is a cultural economist with a profound interest in architecture and a background in research and teaching on the cultural industries. While finishing her PhD, she is in charge of university partnerships at ECA, building from her work in Erasmus+ and HERA Grant funded university consortium programmes.

Alan Rogers

University Collaborations Manager
Alan is a visual artist, arts educator and cultural events director with a lifelong interest in architecture. His background includes participation and management of international artist's residencies and teaching at several universities on arts education. Now resident in Venice, he is in charge of university partnerships at ECA, building from his work in multi-agency collaborations as Executive Director of the b-side festival and Arts Development Officer for the Maritime Mix Cultural Olympiad at the London 2012 Sailing Events.

Giulia Conte
Program manager
Giulia graduated in Music and Film studies in Turin. She then lived 3 years in France, studying Jazz music at Paris Conservatoire, then moved to Venice to obtain a Master in Creative Development and Management of cultural events at Ca' Foscari Challenge School University. Since 2015, she has been working in Italy as a communication and production assistant in arts, music and cinema festivals. At ECA she is responsible for organizing courses.
